At the Hermitage, we house 200+ cats at any given time and rescue about 700 cats annually. With the addition of our medical suite, The Hermitage provides state-of-the-art care for our cats including spay/neuter surgeries; dental procedures; laser treatments to assist in recovery; and more. Every cat is given a full exam every six months, allowing us to take a preventative approach to their care. Our in-house X-ray equipment allows us to diagnose many conditions without costly visits to outside veterinarians. This care is especially essential for our cats with special needs, such as FIV, FeLV, diabetes, or other chronic issues. Our ability to provide this comprehensive care in-house greatly reduces the stress on the cats, reduces our costs, and improves the cats overall well-being.
At the Hermitage, we adhere to the principle of No-Kill in that no cat in our care will ever be euthanized to make room for another, nor will any cat in our care ever be destroyed except in cases of terminal and painful illness or when compassion demands it because there is no reasonable alternative.
The Hermitage medical clinic is requesting funds for a new laser to provide laser therapy. This laser will allow us to provide amazing healing support for so many of our cats. Here are some of the reasons we would love to have a laser on-site:
- Post any surgical procedure to promote healing at the incision site(s)-Spays, neuters, amputations, etc
- Post dental to promote healing of the gums and any extraction sites
- Decreases healing time for soft tissue injuries
- Cats with arthritis of any kind
- All wounds of any size to promote healing
- Help with bladder irritation for our cats with urinary stones
- Helps relieve some of the pain associated with kidney disease
- Aids in healing of ear infections
- Promotes healing of anal gland infections
- Promotes healing of hot spots and skin lesions (such as those our allergy cats are experiencing)
- Aids in correct of nerve damage
Those are just a few of the many possibilities with having access to laser therapy. The quality of life of our cats would be greatly increased by having a laser on site. This would allow for a decrease in treatment times, decreased cost in medication and overall healthier and happier animals.
